Questions to Ask Your Private Weather Service

November 25, 2013

Professional meteorological services have been saving money and improving safety for businesses, road crews, schools and airports for decades. How can you tell the difference between a state-of-the-art, experienced operation and an individual at home playing on the internet? So when accuracy means money, answers to the following questions should help you match your operational needs with the experience that will serve you best.

  • Do the meteorologists work together in a professional weather center or individually in their homes?
  • Can I talk to my meteorologists whenever I want?
  • Will my meteorologists call me in the middle of the night if the roads will deteriorate for rush hour?
  • Is a year long contract required?
  • How detailed are the post storm reports? How long do I have to wait for them?
  • Can I draw (geo-fence) my desired location for my weather alerts or am I limited to one zip code?
  • Can I set different thresholds for my weather alerts such as: locations, personnel, weather scenarios, time of day, etc.?
  • When I switch my alerts off (to get a little shut-eye), will the alerts automatically turn back on at a designated time?
